Our Health Initiatives
The treatment of eye diseases
Chronic health issues contribute to the high level of poverty in Tanzania where eye disease is rife. Through an endowment of the Carr Foundation of Brisbane, Amani is in partnership with the Mvumi Mission Eye Hospital to prevent and treat eye diseases such as cataracts, trachoma conjunctivitis, refractive error, corneal ulcers and glaucoma. The local village leadership committee as well as the hospital specialists identify those in most need of treatment under this Amani health program.
Women’s health care
Hearts for Africa and our sister organisation in the USA have funded the construction and support of the Women’s Health Centre in the village of Makang’wa that supports pregnant women, mothers with young families and others in a village without a medical centre or hospital.
Urgent medical aid
Hearts for Africa funds an emergency aid service for general medical emergencies. This is aimed at breaking the merciless cycle of malaria, cholera, typhoid and other diseases.[slideshow_deploy id=’340’]
